Greetings, I’m Linda, and I’ve been dedicating my time to volunteering at Meadows Park care home in Louth since September 2022. Following my retirement, I felt a strong desire to give back to my community, and when I came across the Age UK advert, I knew it was the perfect opportunity for me.
My role involves befriending the residents, engaging in various activities like games, strolls in the garden, enjoying music, and even some lively dancing! Whether it’s bingo, skittles, bowling, or attempting crafts (which isn’t my forte, but I give it my best shot!), I find immense joy in spending time with the residents, be it through conversation or simply being a good listener.
The experience has been incredibly rewarding, and I often feel like I have the “easy” part, given the tremendous effort the hardworking staff puts into their care work. The warm welcome and appreciation from everyone at Meadows Park have made my volunteering journey truly delightful. I also feel well-supported by the dedicated staff at Age UK.
Reminiscing with the residents and learning about their life stories is something I cherish. I’ve come to understand the importance of respect for the elderly, particularly those dealing with dementia. Contributing to the well-being of others in this capacity is humbling, and I wholeheartedly recommend volunteering to anyone considering giving a bit of their time.
A heartfelt thank you to Meadows Park and Age UK for this enriching experience!
