This harvest season, residents, relatives, visitors and the team at Trent Bridge came together to reaffirm their commitment to kindness and community by collecting and donating essential food items to The Friary, a Nottingham-based charity dedicated to supporting adults experiencing homelessness.
Led by our resident Pat and Lifestyle Assistant Karen, the team spent a couple of weeks gathering non-perishables, toiletries, and other essentials. Anita, another resident, took great satisfaction in packaging the donations, sharing stories of her late mother’s own charitable spirit, and reflecting on the powerful legacy of giving.
On October 30th, Pat and Karen travelled to The Friary’s drop-in centre on Musters Road in West Bridgford. They were welcomed warmly by staff and volunteers, and over a cup of tea, heard first-hand how their donation will support vulnerable members of the community.
About The Friary
The Friary is a well-established registered charity in Nottingham, founded in 1988, with a mission to empower homeless and vulnerable adults to rebuild their lives by providing practical support, advice, and emotional care.
Operating with open-access drop-in sessions three times a week, The Friary offers a comprehensive range of services: confidential welfare advice, food parcels, clothing, showers, a laundry service, and access to medical and health support, including a GP, dentistry, optometry, and chiropody.
Beyond immediate relief, their drop-in also provides social and emotional support, plus facilities for IT and job-seeking assistance — helping people facing homelessness to regain their footing.
Each year, The Friary supports around 15,000 visits from individuals grappling with homelessness, substance misuse, financial hardship, or social isolation.
A Shared Vision of Compassion
“At Trent Bridge Care Home, we believe in the power of coming together — not just within our walls, but reaching out beyond them,” said Karen, Lifestyle Assistant at Trent Bridge. “This harvest donation is more than just items in a box; it’s a way to show people experiencing hard times that they are seen, respected, and cared for.”
Pat added: “It was such a fulfilling experience to hand over our donations in person.”
Karen, who coordinated the delivery, said: “Meeting the team at The Friary and listening to their stories reminded me just how much a little kindness can mean. For our residents, joining in this effort brought joy, purpose, and a sense of connection with the wider community.”
