Sunday Baking Club Brings Memories, Laughter and Connection at Lindley Park Care Home

Residents have been enjoying shared baking sessions, with ingredients prepared together and clear, supportive instructions to ensure everyone can take part and enjoy the experience. These sessions are designed to be positive, engaging and inclusive, encouraging conversation and meaningful connection along the way.

There’s something special about baking at Lindley Park Care Home. As soon as hands get busy mixing and stirring, stories begin to flow — and the kitchen fills with more than just delicious aromas.

During a recent flapjack bake, residents were fully involved in the mixing process, with the sweet smell filling the room and building excitement for the finished treat. As they worked together, memories of baking in earlier years naturally emerged, with residents reminiscing about who they used to bake with and the special moments those times held.

For Barbara, one of Lindley Park’s residents, baking has always been close to her heart. A cake maker right up until her retirement, she has loved being able to reconnect with an activity that meant so much to her. As she joins in, Barbara lights up while sharing stories from her cake-making days, clearly enjoying every moment of returning to a familiar and cherished skill.

Another resident fondly recalled helping her grandmother in the kitchen as a child, especially making shortbread — a favourite that residents have since baked together at Lindley Park.

Joyce has also been very hands-on during the sessions, describing the baking experience as “tickety-boo.” With a smile, she shared that she has always had a sweet tooth and that the best part of baking was — and still is — licking the spoon.

These baking sessions are about so much more than the finished treats. They create opportunities for residents to express themselves, relive happy memories and connect with one another, making each bake day a meaningful and joyful experience at Lindley Park Care Home.
