As many of you may know, the Government has stopped the winter fuel allowance this year, leaving many vulnerable people facing the challenge of staying warm. At Avocet House, in Boston, Lincolnshire, we understand just how vital warmth is during the colder months, and we wanted to do something to help.
Inspired by stories on social media about people making and gifting blankets and hats to the elderly and vulnerable in their communities, we decided to join in and make a difference. That’s how our ‘Winter Warmer’ afternoon tea fundraiser came to life!
Thanks to the incredible support from our families and visitors, we raised an impressive £230. On top of that, our local Dunelm store generously contributed an additional £70, bringing our total to £300! We were overjoyed by this kindness and couldn’t wait to put it to good use.
With the funds, our team enjoyed an afternoon shopping at local stores, picking out warm items and packaging them into gift bags to share with those in need. Over the next few weeks, we’ll be teaming up with local support groups to distribute these gift bags in our community. We’re so excited to visit and hopefully bring a little warmth and comfort to those who need it most this winter.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone who helped make this idea a reality. Your kindness and generosity are truly appreciated!
