A lifelong love of horses brought one of Richard House Care Home’s residents back into the saddle, as 87-year-old Doreen enjoyed a truly unforgettable experience by fulfilling her wish to ride a horse once again.
Doreen has spent her life riding and owning horses, making them a very special part of her story. When she shared her wish to experience riding again, the team at Richard House Care Home was determined to help make her dream a reality.
With the support of the wonderful team at Kesteven Ride Ability Stables, Doreen was given the opportunity to reconnect with her lifelong passion and enjoy a very special day doing something she loves.
The moment Doreen climbed back into the saddle was truly heartwarming. Her smile said it all, as she embraced the experience and created a wonderful new memory. It was a beautiful reminder that treasured hobbies and lifelong passions can continue to bring happiness, no matter what our age.
Team members Ellie and Lisa accompanied Doreen on the special outing, helping to make the day possible and ensuring she felt supported throughout the experience.
Doreen’s achievement has also touched the hearts of her family and the wider community. Her daughter shared a lovely message of appreciation, saying, “Thank you so much, you are all amazing!” Another person commented on how wonderful it was to see the home making residents’ wishes come true.
At Richard House Care Home, the team believes that person-centred care means more than meeting everyday needs. It is about getting to know each resident, understanding what matters most to them and finding opportunities to help them continue doing the things that bring meaning and joy to their lives.
Doreen’s experience perfectly reflects this commitment, showing how listening to residents’ wishes and going the extra mile can create moments that will be treasured for years to come.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the team at Kesteven Ride Ability Stables for helping make Doreen’s dream possible, and to Ellie and Lisa for accompanying her on such a memorable adventure.
At 87, Doreen has proved that it is never too late to revisit a lifelong passion and make a special wish come true. We are incredibly proud of her and delighted to have helped her get back in the saddle!
