Resident’s Wish Blossoms into a Magical Night at The Civic

The community spirit was as bright as a field of sunflowers as Abbey Wood Lodge resident Megan had her “Grant-a-Wish” dream realised with a special trip to the theatre.

Megan travelled the short distance to The Civic in Ormskirk for a highly anticipated performance of The Calendar Girls Musical. The venue was transformed for the occasion, with the hall adorned with a stunning display of beautifully knitted sunflowers, setting a warm and celebratory tone for the show.

The production, based on the true story of a group of women who bare all for a charitable cause, struck the perfect chord with the audience. While the story explores themes of loss and grief, Megan noted that the show was masterfully balanced with humour.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the creative staging of the show’s most famous moments. Megan was particularly impressed by the artistic direction, praising the “very clever” way the cast handled the nude scenes, ensuring the performance remained tasteful and modest while staying true to the spirit of the story.

The afternoon was a showcase of local excellence, featuring:

  • A powerhouse cast: Exceptional acting and vocals brought the emotional script to life.
  • Atmospheric décor: The handmade knitted sunflowers created an immersive experience from the moment guests walked through the doors.
  • A joyful atmosphere: A reminder of the power of live theatre to inspire and uplift.

As the final curtain fell, it was clear that this was more than just a show; it was a wish granted in the most spectacular fashion. For Megan, the visit to The Civic was a beautiful reminder that even in the face of sadness, there is always room for laughter, talent, and a community coming together to make dreams a reality.
