Residents and team members at Trent Bridge Care Home are travelling the world in 2026 without leaving home, thanks to a year-long initiative called “Around the World 2026.” Each month, residents choose a new country to explore, bringing different cultures, cuisines and experiences into the home while giving everyone something to look forward to.
“We wanted to create something that brings excitement, learning and joy,” said Charlie, Lifestyle Manager. “Travelling isn’t always possible later in life, so we thought – why not bring the world to them?”
The journey began in January with Italy, as the home transformed into a café-style setting filled with music and themed décor. Residents enjoyed activities including pizza making and an armchair travel session exploring Italian landmarks and traditions. Making and sharing their own pizzas was a particular highlight, alongside a menu featuring classic dishes like spaghetti and tiramisu.
In February, residents visited the Caribbean to celebrate Black History Month, enjoying colourful decorations, Caribbean-inspired food and creative activities such as designing carnival headdresses. An armchair travel session helped residents learn more about the islands’ culture and history, sparking conversation and laughter.
Next, residents are preparing to visit Spain, with more themed days planned throughout the year. The initiative continues to create meaningful experiences, spark memories and bring people together—showing that adventure doesn’t have to stop.
