We had a marvellous New Year’s Eve celebration at Abbey Wood Lodge! Preparations began in our baking club, where we made a delicious Bundt cake. This ring-shaped cake is especially popular on New Year’s Day, as many believe it symbolises a “full circle of luck” for the year ahead.
To ring in the New Year, we hosted a delightful cocktail party earlier in the day. Dressed in our best party outfits, we enjoyed a beautifully decorated room filled with laughter and festive cheer. While sipping cocktails, we reminisced about the year gone by, watching highlights from 2024 and quizzing ourselves on how much we could remember, it’s surprising how much can slip your mind in a year!
Looking ahead to 2025, we created a “Wishing Wall,” inviting residents, families, and staff to share their hopes and dreams for the coming year. Each wish was written on a slip of paper and attached to the wall, with fingers crossed that they’ll come true.
At 4 p.m. (our early midnight), we dimmed the lights, waved glowsticks, and watched Big Ben chime in the New Year alongside a spectacular fireworks display on TV. We ended the celebration hand in hand, singing the timeless “Auld Lang Syne.”
From all of us at Abbey Wood Lodge, we wish you a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2025!
