Residential Care

At Tanglewood we offer residential care for older people who are finding living at home independently more difficult, and require some support with daily living skills. You may also just be looking for somewhere you can have company and social support.

Tanglewood Guide To Residential Care

Tanglewood’s Approach To Residential Care

At our residential care homes, we ensure that your care needs are individualised, so that you are receiving the care that you want and need. When you come to live in your new care home, you are able to bring with you your personal items to make your room your own. We discuss with you your previous lifestyle, and how we can support you to maintain this by tailoring activities to what you enjoy. We provide nutritious meals and fine dining in all our homes. We have a laundry and cleaning service so that you can relax and enjoy your time with us.

The Tanglewood care team know how hard this decision is to make, and we are here to provide you with support and guidance so that this is as simple as possible for you, your friends and family. We have great relationships with local GP surgeries and other health professionals to provide the medical support that you may need.

How to Arrange Residential Care?

1. Enquiry and Visit

Start by contacting your preferred Tanglewood home or our central team. We can check availability and arrange a visit so you can experience the home for yourself.

You can also request a brochure for homes such as Bingley Park or Trent Bridge through our website.

2. Care Needs Assessment

A member of our admissions team will carry out a thorough and gentle assessment. This helps us understand whether Residential, Dementia, or Nursing care is needed. It also allows us to create a personalised care plan.

3. Financial Assessment

If you need help with funding, you can apply to your Local Authority for a financial assessment (means test). This determines whether you will receive financial support.

4. Moving In

Once assessments are complete, we ensure a smooth transition. Residents are welcome to bring personal belongings, photos, and favourite items to make the room feel like home.

How Much Does Residential Care Cost?

The cost depends on the type of care needed (for example, standard residential or residential dementia care), the home’s location, and the room chosen.

For example:

There are no administration fees. Permanent care fees are usually paid monthly in advance.

Who Pays for Residential Care?

Self-Funders

People with savings or capital above £23,250 (current threshold in England) usually pay the full cost of their care.

Local Authority Funded or Part-Funded

If savings fall below the threshold, the Local Authority may contribute to the cost. This will be confirmed through the financial assessment.

Funding Options for Residential Care

Local Authority Support (If Funds Reduce)

If you are self-funding and your savings approach £23,250, contact your Local Authority at least three months in advance. They can reassess and may begin to contribute.

Deferred Payment Scheme

If most of your capital is tied up in a property, your Local Authority may offer a Deferred Payment Scheme. Care fees are then repaid later from the property or estate.

Attendance Allowance

This benefit may be available for older adults who need help with personal care due to illness or disability, regardless of income or savings.

We always recommend seeking independent financial advice from organisations such as SOLLA or Age UK. They can help you explore funding options and make informed decisions.
