Activities are built around what each resident can do and what they have always enjoyed. We help residents continue to enjoy fulfilling everyday experiences. Our Activities Coordinators are passionate about stimulation and engagement, from games and activities for people with dementia to familiar objects, colours and textures.

Meaningful engagement takes many forms. Our dementia residents enjoy social activities, reminiscence or simply watching birds in the garden. In our memory care homes, dementia-friendly spaces are designed to feel familiar, so residents can stay independent and engaged. Holbeach Meadows has a 1950s kitchen, schooldays room and household corner with everyday objects and tasks. Beeston Rise’s nursery corner, sensory table and reflection space means residents can spark memories, conversation and joy.

Person-centred care & staff training

If you choose to live at a Tanglewood home, we carry out an assessment so that we can understand the support you require, and we will discuss decision making and who is able to do that on behalf of your loved one, if they are lacking in capacity. This is the first step in our care home’s commitment to truly person-centred dementia care.

Trained to understand

Knowing someone’s life story makes care feel familiar. Favourite music, past jobs, family traditions and lifelong interests all shape the day. At Holbeach Meadows there is a dementia-friendly office with a vintage typewriter and a rotary phone, for residents who spent their working lives in one. Our team receive accredited dementia training and dementia awareness training, so they understand how to recognise and support someone living with dementia. We put team members through dementia care qualifications, and keep that training current with workshops on dementia resources throughout the year.

Our teams are trained to support decision making and to steady things when a resident is distressed. At one of our memory care homes, one team member spent a day alongside a resident who was moving the furniture round their room. They left them to it, because the resident was calm and content, and stepped in only where there was a risk to anyone.

How can families stay involved in dementia care?

Nobody knows a person like their family. We rely on relatives to fill in the history, the interests and the preferences it would take us months to learn, and there is no such thing as telling us too much. Some homes go further. Avocet House runs a dementia cafe and Toray Pines a memory café, where people living with dementia and those who love them can sit with others doing the same. We value family insight and maintain an open, transparent partnership.

Visits to all our care homes are flexible as we have no set visiting hours. Families can visit whenever they choose, and many enjoy time together in our landscaped gardens. We host regular meetings to share updates, gather feedback, and address any concerns promptly.

Families are able to add photos and stories to their loved one’s digital memory book, helping staff deliver better personalised care. We have lots of events at our care homes so families are welcome at all of our celebrations and fundraising events. For example, the community bake sale at Hunters Creek for Children in Need and the summer fayres held across many homes.
