Residents and staff at Lindley Park Care Home in Huddersfield recently enjoyed a special treat as daytime TV fitness legend Derrick Evans, fondly known to millions as Mr Motivator, visited to lead a live group exercise session.
Opened in November 2025, our modern 61-bed care home on Huddersfield Road was filled with nostalgia, laughter, and high energy as residents recognized the iconic instructor they used to watch on GMTV throughout the 1990s. Still inspiring people across the country to stay active at 73, Mr Motivator remains a passionate champion for healthy aging and active living, making his visit on Tuesday 21st July an unforgettable event for our entire community.
The special visit was organized by 23-year-old Bailey Greetham-Clark, founder of Be Great Fitness. As part of our commitment to holistic health and well-being, Bailey and his team visit Lindley Park on a weekly basis to lead accessible, enjoyable exercise sessions tailored to all abilities.
Seeing a household name step into our lounge created immense excitement across the home. Resident Yvonne Noble, aged 79, shared that you have to put your heart into these activities and maintain a positive attitude. She added that she thinks Mr Motivator is marvelous and has always admired his unique ability to inspire people.
The atmosphere in the room was electric as residents stretched, moved, and laughed alongside the famous fitness instructor, reminiscing about watching his colorful routines on breakfast television decades ago.
Despite their fifty-year age difference, Derrick Evans and Bailey Greetham-Clark share a joint vision of keeping older adults active, confident, and connected. Bailey noted that he has gotten to know the residents at Lindley Park very well through his regular weekly visits, and seeing everyone so engaged and upbeat alongside Derrick was a wonderful experience.
Derrick Evans emphasized that movement is one of the greatest gifts people can give themselves at any stage of life. He explained that staying active in later years does not require running marathons or spending hours in a gym, but rather finding joyful ways to move that build confidence and social connection. He added that exercise lifts spirits, brings communities together, and serves as a powerful reminder that it is never too late to feel good.
At Lindley Park, we know that physical activity is essential for living well in later life. Group exercise sessions help boost cognitive function, improve confidence, enhance mood, and support daily independence, which are vital components of our residential and dementia care pathways.
Equally important is the personal connection our care team builds with every individual. Taking the time to understand our residents’ past routines, favorite television personalities, and personal fitness goals allows us to host events that truly resonate with them. Home Manager Anna Chan shared that residents had a wonderful time working out with Mr Motivator and that seeing so many star-struck faces was delightful. She noted that staying active supports physical health while boosting morale, and expressed deep gratitude to Bailey for bringing such an inspirational experience to the home.
As part of the award-winning Tanglewood Care Homes group, Lindley Park delivers person-centered residential, dementia, respite, palliative, and day care tailored to individual preferences. Designed to promote independence and well-being, our Huddersfield home features en-suite bedrooms, beautiful landscaped gardens, a welcoming café, a sports lounge, vibrant activity spaces, and an on-site hair salon.
We believe that families play a central role in our vibrant community, and relatives are always warmly welcomed to join us for special events, partake in daily activities, or simply drop in for a quiet cup of tea in our comfortable lounge.
Choosing the right care home for a family member is a significant decision, and we welcome prospective residents and their families to experience our warm, supportive community firsthand.
