On the 4th April residents at Sandpiper care home had linkage sensory bus come and visit. The sensory bus is a unique sensory initiative that is partially funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. The project provides schools, nursing homes, children’s centres and community groups across Lincolnshire the opportunity to access, enjoy and gain real benefit from sensory resources and facilities, at no cost to them.
The spectacular sensory room at the back of the bus transforms into a different theme every few weeks. Coloured lights, sounds, projectors, aromatherapy diffusers, and a variety of sensory items are used to create immersive environments which are both fascinating and educational. The Bus has lots of sights, sounds, smells and textures to explore. One of the biggest benefits of the bus is that it is a truly flexible service. The room can be adapted and customised according to needs of the users.
Our residents really seemed to enjoy it. Our theme for the day was the atmospheric Jungle. Pat and Hilda loved all the animal cuddly toys. The sounds made the whole experience feel like they were really in a jungle amongst the animals in their natural habitat.
On residents commented ‘I liked all the bright colours and said that it was an uplifting experience’.
Another commented ‘This has been a nice and relaxing experience.’
