Cedar Falls raise money for sensory room

On the 6th of August 2023, Jenny, the dedicated Lifestyle Coordinator at Cedar Falls, accomplished an extraordinary feat – a tandem skydive. Her skydive had a dual purpose: she was raising funds for the Alzheimer’s Society and for a special cause close to her heart, the transformation of the upstairs sun lounge at Tanglewood Cedar Falls into a sensory room.

Jenny’s motivation for this remarkable endeavor was deeply personal. She undertook this challenge in loving memory of her Grandad, James Peacock, who had passed away at Cedar Falls care home in 2018. Now, Jenny channels her passion into her work with the residents at Cedar Falls, organizing a variety of activities that bring joy and fulfillment to their lives.

Recognizing the immense value a sensory room would bring to the residents, Jenny embarked on this skydiving adventure with unwavering determination. Her efforts bore fruit as she successfully raised a total of £1,146, with £545 going to the Alzheimer’s Society and a generous £601 towards Cedar Falls’ sensory room project.

Jenny shared her exhilarating experience, noting the initial nerves that gripped her on the day of the jump. She had to contend with multiple cancellations due to the unpredictable wind conditions. However, her persistence paid off, and at 11:15 am, she finally took the leap.

Reflecting on the skydive, Jenny said, “I would do this again for charity. It was amazing but scary. The free fall was the most daunting part, with the intense rush of wind as you plummeted at 120mph. But when the parachute was deployed, it was an incredible sensation, floating through the clouds with a breathtaking view.”

Jenny expressed her heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported her throughout this remarkable journey, emphasizing how much their encouragement meant to her. Her bravery and dedication have not only contributed to a wonderful cause but have also left an indelible mark on the lives of the residents at Cedar Falls.
