Humberston House Celebrates a Wonderful October Filled with Activities, Community Spirit and Special Memories

October has been a vibrant and exciting month at Humberston House Care Home, with residents enjoying a wonderful variety of activities, special visitors, birthday celebrations and fundraising events. From animal encounters and creative sessions to community outings and festive preparations, there has been something for everyone to enjoy.

Enjoying the Great Outdoors

The home’s popular Sunday Walking Club has continued to encourage residents to get out into the local community, enjoy some fresh air and benefit from spending time outdoors with friends. Residents Pauline and Alison are particularly enthusiastic members of the group, eagerly joining the walks each week and enjoying the opportunity to explore their surroundings together.

These regular outings provide a valuable opportunity for residents to remain active, socialise and enjoy a change of scenery.

Special Visitors Bring Smiles and Laughter

October brought two particularly exciting visits to Humberston House, with the Rainbow Dreaming Ponies arriving on Monday 6th October, followed by the Grimsby Baptist Church Puppets on Tuesday 7th October.

The ponies proved especially popular with residents, bringing plenty of smiles and excitement throughout their visit. One resident in particular, Jean, was absolutely delighted to meet them. A lifelong lover of ponies, Jean stayed close to the animals throughout their visit, making the most of every precious moment with her favourite four-legged friends.

The Grimsby Baptist Church Puppets also brought joy and entertainment to the home, providing residents with an enjoyable opportunity to come together and share a memorable experience.

Visits like these are a wonderful way to introduce new experiences into the home, encourage engagement and create special moments for residents to treasure.

Creativity, Conversation and Companionship

Humberston House continues to offer a variety of regular activities designed to reflect residents’ interests and encourage meaningful social connections.

The popular Knit and Natter group remains a firm favourite, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy creative activities while chatting and spending time together.

Meanwhile, the Men’s Group continues to make a positive difference, providing a welcoming space for residents to enjoy meaningful conversations and friendly competition. Activities include much-loved games such as dominoes and draughts, with residents particularly looking forward to Wednesday mornings when Kim and Rob kindly visit to lead the sessions.

These regular gatherings offer valuable opportunities for friendship, companionship and shared enjoyment, helping residents maintain their interests and build relationships.

Mondays Are for Baking!

Mondays have become a particularly delicious part of the week at Humberston House, with residents enjoying regular baking sessions filled with creativity, conversation and, of course, plenty of tasty treats.

The group has been busy making a wonderful selection of homemade goodies, including carrot muffins, jam tarts, banana muffins, cupcakes and biscuits.

Carrot muffins proved especially popular, although all the bakes have been warmly received by residents eager to sample their creations at teatime each Monday.

Beyond the delicious results, the baking sessions provide valuable opportunities for residents to practise fine motor skills, share recipes and memories, and enjoy working together towards a common goal.

There is always a special sense of achievement when residents can sit down together and enjoy something they have made themselves.

Raising Awareness for Breast Cancer

Humberston House also came together to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a special fundraising event on Friday 23rd October.

Residents and staff joined forces for a day of baking, cake sales and cycling challenges, with team members taking on the impressive challenge of cycling a combined 100 miles to help raise awareness and funds for this important cause.

The event was a fantastic success, with residents and staff enthusiastically participating in the activities, enjoying the homemade cakes and supporting the fundraising efforts.

The cake sale proved popular, and staff members made great progress towards their cycling challenge. The final fundraising total is still being calculated, but the team is delighted with the enthusiasm and generosity shown by everyone involved.

The event was a wonderful example of the home coming together to support an important cause, demonstrating how shared activities can make a positive difference both within the home and beyond.

A Special Birthday Celebration for Jean

There was another wonderful reason to celebrate this month as resident Jean marked her 87th birthday with a fantastic party organised by a member of the Humberston House team and Jean’s daughter, Tracey.

The downstairs reception area was transformed for the occasion, creating a lovely setting for a celebration filled with music, laughter and happiness.

With the karaoke machine ready to go, residents and guests enjoyed singing along to favourite songs and making the most of the special occasion. There was plenty of laughter, delicious cake and wonderful moments shared between Jean, her family, fellow residents and the team.

It was a heartwarming celebration and a lovely opportunity to make Jean feel extra special on her birthday.

Getting Ready for Halloween

With Halloween approaching, excitement is building at Humberston House as residents and staff prepare for a spooktacular celebration on Saturday 31st October.

Everyone is being encouraged to dress up and embrace the Halloween spirit, with plans underway to create a fun and festive atmosphere throughout the home.

The team is looking forward to bringing everyone together for another memorable occasion filled with laughter, seasonal fun and plenty of opportunities to make special memories.
