On Saturday, 6th July, we celebrated Alice in Wonderland Day with a delightful Hatter’s Cheese and Wine Afternoon at Abbey Wood Lodge!
As guests entered the lounge, they were greeted by the Hatter himself, and the room was decked out in whimsical Alice in Wonderland decorations. Playing cards were scattered across the tables and dangled from the windows, while flamingos stood watch (though we refrained from using them as croquet mallets!). The White Rabbit made an appearance too, complete with spectacles, a stopwatch, and an umbrella. Confusing road signs pointed in every direction, and even the plates and napkins featured Alice in Wonderland themes.
Residents wore an array of hats pulled from their closets, with some being wackier than others! Family members joined in the fun, dressing up as Alice and the White Rabbit. The only characters missing were the Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat!
We enjoyed a colorful selection of cheese and crackers, sipping wine and engaging in lively conversation. The food was cleverly labeled with signs saying “Drink Me,” “Eat Me,” and “Take One.” Thankfully, no one shrank to the size of a penny after tasting the various potions!
As we snacked, the Disney version of “Alice in Wonderland” played in the background. After the movie, we put our knowledge to the test with an Alice in Wonderland pub quiz.
It was a lovely afternoon filled with laughter at the various hats, bunny ears, and costumes worn by residents, family members, and team members. Here at Abbey Wood Lodge, we cherish any excuse to throw a party, especially when it involves fancy dress!
