Holbeach Meadows celebrated their first birthday last weekend with a Hawaiin themed Summer Fayre.
The home was decorated with grass skirts, flowers, inflated palm trees, flamingos, dolphins and beach balls, the team and the residents all wore a lei and got into the tropical spirit. We welcomed in the local community to celebrate with us and had a treasure hunt, facepainting and a special visit from Moana, which delighted our smaller visitors.
We had a fabulous array of games, amazing prizes donated to our raffle by local businesses, families and team members, a cake stall and candyfloss, not to mention our mocktail tiki bar, ice cream and a delicious BBQ! Entertainment came from Holbeach Town Band and our Front of House Manager Martin, who sang for us. Residents particularly enjoyed having Holbeach Town Band play for us in our own garden, it made us all feel quite special.
The event was a huge success and raised money for our Resident’s Fund, that will go towards trips out and equipment for the resident’s enjoyment. It was only made possible by the amazing contribution of the residents and the Holbeach Meadows team. Residents were involved in a huge part of the preparations for the event, from designing and painting the treasure map for ‘Find the Treasure’, painting the tree for ‘Pin the Coconut’, preparing the prizes for the ‘Treasure Hunt and ‘Lucky Wheel’, labelling up the tombola prizes, counting the sweets for ‘Sweets in the Jar’ to detangling all the leis and leaflet dropping the local estate. The team all helped out too, blowing up inflatables, decorating the home, donating tombola prizes, acquiring raffle prizes and supporting the residents to be involved.
Home Manager Gemma said, ‘It is important for us, as a new home to become a part of the local Holbeach community. Events like these are really lovely, we receive amazing support from local businesses with raffle prizes and donations, and we get to invite our neighbours and the wider Holbeach community into our home, to get to know us. We welcome everybody, and love to see new people, we always make sure there is plenty for children to attract families in, as the resident’s love to see young children bring their energy and fun into the home. We hope to spend the money raised on some trips out for groups of residents, but it can be difficult for us to get out and about regularly, so hosting the community is one of the best ways for us to be a part of it.’
