Living History and Lived Experiences

Many residents at Tanglewood have lived through defining moments in modern history. Their stories offer powerful lessons about resilience and courage.

At Abbey Wood Lodge, several residents remember their childhoods as wartime evacuees. As children, they left their homes and moved to unfamiliar places to stay safe during the war.

At Meadows Park, residents Ruby and Sheila recall growing up near RAF camps and living through the Blitz in Leeds. Their stories offer a personal view of life during wartime Britain.

These lived experiences help keep history alive and remind us of the strength shown by this generation.

Everyday Heroes: Then and Now

The determination shown by our residents continues today through the dedication of our care teams.

Across Tanglewood, staff work every day to support residents with compassion, creativity and respect.

Local schools and nurseries regularly visit Tanglewood homes. For example, pupils from St Anne’s School often spend time with residents at Abbey Wood Lodge.
