Life at Beeston Rise is filled with seasonal celebrations that bring residents, families and the wider community together throughout the year. From festive traditions to themed entertainment and milestone events, every occasion is designed to create lasting memories while encouraging everyone to take part. Residents have enjoyed everything from a magical pantomime afternoon and a nostalgic 1950s Valentine’s celebration, to Black History Month carnival celebrations that brought music, dancing and Caribbean culture into the home.

Christmas is always a highlight of the calendar, with residents enjoying a festive Christmas market celebration, creating handmade Christmas decorations, supporting vulnerable children through a Christmas giving initiative, and exploring the festive atmosphere during a Winter Wonderland visit. Spring brings just as much excitement, with residents meeting a special visitor during an Easter fair with a therapy horse, while birthdays and anniversaries are marked with equal enthusiasm, including a first anniversary celebration and a second anniversary community celebration. Every celebration reflects our belief that meaningful experiences, shared traditions and joyful occasions are an important part of everyday life.

Community Activities and Local Partnerships

Maintaining strong links with the local community is an important part of life at Beeston Rise, creating opportunities for residents to stay connected with familiar faces while building new relationships. Regular community coffee mornings  welcome local people into the home for conversation and companionship, while a community open day gave visitors the opportunity to meet the team, enjoy live entertainment and experience the warm atmosphere first-hand. Residents also welcomed local children during an inspiring primary school visit, where stories and experiences were shared across the generations, highlighting the value of meaningful intergenerational activities.

Supporting local charities and community organisations is equally important. Residents and team members came together for a Christmas gift appeal for vulnerable children, donated essential supplies through a Harvest Festival food bank collection, and helped raise awareness of homelessness by joining a CEO Sleepout fundraising event. Whether it’s marking an important milestone, supporting lifelong relationships or helping residents continue doing the things they love, our activities are always centred around the individual. Residents have celebrated remarkable occasions such as a 100th birthday celebration, while the touching story of a couple reunited after five weeks apart reminded everyone of the importance of love, companionship and kindness. Following Ivan’s passing, the home created a lasting tribute through a memorial garden bench, giving family, friends and residents a peaceful place to reflect and remember.

Building friendships is equally important, with residents enjoying daily companionship and forming new connections through shared experiences, as celebrated in new friendships within the home. By recognising every resident’s life story and encouraging independence, involvement and meaningful relationships, we create a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued, listened to and truly at home.

Spending time with animals and enjoying nature can have a remarkable impact on wellbeing, and these experiences have become a much-loved part of life at Beeston Rise. Residents have welcomed a variety of special visitors, including therapy dog visits and a memorable therapy horse experience, with both visits encouraging conversation, reducing anxiety and bringing smiles to residents throughout the home. These gentle interactions often spark cherished memories of family pets and create meaningful moments that residents continue talking about long after the visits have ended.

Nature also plays an important role in daily life, with residents enjoying hands-on gardening and creative activities such as flower arranging workshops, while welcoming eight feathered newcomers during the arrival of baby chicks. These activities encourage companionship, nurture a sense of purpose and provide opportunities for residents to care for living things, supporting both emotional wellbeing and cognitive stimulation. Whether spending time outdoors, enjoying seasonal planting or interacting with visiting animals, these experiences help create a warm, uplifting environment where every day brings something new to discover.

Entertainment, Dining and Social Events

Life at Beeston Rise is enriched by a varied programme of entertainment, themed dining experiences and social events that encourage residents to stay active, engaged and connected. Live performers, interactive activities and special events regularly fill the home with music, laughter and conversation. Residents have enjoyed an authentic Italian dining experience, celebrated the official opening of the home’s welcoming resident pub, and even helped choose its name through a community pub naming competition. These shared experiences create opportunities for residents, families and visitors to come together in relaxed surroundings while enjoying good food and great company.

The home also celebrates achievements and milestones that reflect the dedication of both residents and team members. Residents proudly celebrated the home’s official opening, recognised the team’s commitment following a 5-star food hygiene award, and joined in congratulating a colleague during a national care awards achievement.

Days Out and Community Adventures

Residents are encouraged to continue enjoying the hobbies, interests and places that have always been important to them, with regular outings and community experiences forming an important part of life at Beeston Rise. Whether revisiting familiar places or discovering somewhere new, these trips help residents maintain their independence, confidence and connection with the local area. A particularly special moment saw one resident revisit his former rugby club, spending time reminiscing with old friends and reconnecting with an important part of his life. Residents have also enjoyed festive outings during a visit to Nottingham’s Winter Wonderland, where Christmas markets, seasonal treats and festive shopping created magical memories.

Harry enjoys a memorable visit back to Nottingham Casuals Rugby Club, reconnecting with familiar faces and revisiting a place that holds many special memories.

Our team also enjoys taking on challenges that inspire residents and support important causes. Colleagues from across the home proudly completed a Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s Society, while another group prepared for and completed a remarkable Snowdon fundraising challenge in memory of a resident before celebrating their incredible achievement following the successful Snowdon summit. These experiences demonstrate that life at Beeston Rise extends well beyond the home itself, creating opportunities for adventure, community involvement and shared achievements that residents, families and team members can all be proud of.

The introduction of Life Library digital life stories has strengthened person-centred care by preserving treasured memories and enabling families to contribute to residents’ personal histories, while the creation of wish and positivity trees encourages residents to share aspirations, celebrate positive moments and shape activities around the things that matter most to them.
