Activities at Sandpiper Care Home

Staying connected to the local community is an important part of life at Sandpiper.

Throughout the year, residents, families, neighbours and local organisations come together to celebrate the changing seasons, support local causes and enjoy time with one another. Those shared occasions help make Sandpiper feel like part of the community, not separate from it.

Community, Family Events & Seasonal Celebrations

Summer is one of the busiest times of the year. The Summer Fayre welcomes residents, families and local visitors for entertainment, fundraising and great food, while the Community BBQ and Family Fun Day – brings everyone together for games, music and a relaxed afternoon outdoors.

Those celebrations continue throughout the year with regular Family Days giving loved ones another reason to spend time together.

As the seasons change, so do the celebrations. VE Day brings residents together to reflect, share memories and enjoy music inspired by an important moment in history.

Christmas fills the home with festive entertainment and family celebrations during Festive Magic, while Halloween brings fancy dress, themed activities and plenty of laughter.

Valentine’s Day provides another opportunity to celebrate friendships, relationships and time spent with loved ones.

Giving something back is just as important.

During the Blue Light Breakfast the home thanked local emergency services for everything they do.

The team also completed a charity walk for the Alzheimer’s Society, raising money while helping increase awareness within the local community.

Long after the celebrations have finished, it’s often the conversations and shared memories that stay with residents the longest.

That’s what makes community life at Sandpiper so special.

Activities, Wellbeing & Resident Life

No two residents enjoy spending their time in quite the same way.

Some enjoy getting creative, others love spending time in the garden or keeping active outdoors. Whatever their interests, life at Sandpiper is shaped around the people who live here and the things they enjoy most.

Creativity means something different to everyone.

During flower arranging workshops residents create beautiful seasonal displays while enjoying relaxed conversations and time together.

Wellbeing is also supported through dedicated relaxation and self-care experiences, helping residents enjoy a little pampering while boosting confidence and promoting emotional wellbeing.

The garden is another place where residents enjoy spending time together.

Through bringing colour to the gardens, a greenhouse donation and the thriving vegetable patch, residents continue sharing a lifelong love of gardening.

Sandpiper add colour to the garden

One resident has become particularly well known for sharing a lifelong passion for gardening, inspiring fellow residents through dedication and enthusiasm.

Physical activity remains an enjoyable part of everyday life. Residents regularly participate in friendly sporting competitions and outdoor games, promoting gentle exercise, teamwork and plenty of laughter. When the weather allows, everyone enjoys making the most of sunny days in the garden, spending time outdoors with family and friends while benefiting from fresh air and nature.

Sometimes, the most memorable days are the ones nobody expects.

During Reptile Day residents met a variety of reptiles, with many enjoying the chance to get hands-on and try something completely new.

Whether it’s arranging flowers, tending the vegetable garden or meeting reptiles for the first time, it’s often these everyday moments that residents continue talking about long afterwards.

That’s what life at Sandpiper is all about.

Community, Family & Special Events

Sandpiper has built strong links with the local community, creating regular opportunities for residents, families and visitors to come together through celebrations, fundraising and shared experiences. These events help residents remain connected with the wider community while creating lasting memories throughout the year.

Family events are a highlight of the calendar, bringing generations together in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Residents enjoy spending quality time with loved ones during annual family celebration days, featuring entertainment, food and activities for all ages. The home also welcomes the wider community to its popular summer fundraising fayre, where residents help host stalls, games and refreshments while raising money for future activities. Outdoor events continue throughout the warmer months, including a lively community barbecue and family fun day that encourages neighbours, relatives and local organisations to spend time together.

Seasonal celebrations bring excitement throughout the year. Residents enjoy dressing up, decorating the home and taking part in themed activities during a spooktacular Halloween celebration, creating plenty of laughter and shared memories. Christmas is equally special, with festive entertainment, seasonal treats and opportunities for families to celebrate together during the home’s Christmas festivities. Residents also come together to honour important national occasions, including a VE Day remembrance celebration, combining music, reflection and community spirit. Valentine’s Day provides another opportunity to celebrate friendships and relationships during a heartwarming day shared with residents and families.

Sandpiper Residents Enjoy Hands-On Experience During Reptile Day

Sandpiper also supports residents in celebrating life’s most meaningful milestones. One particularly memorable occasion saw a resident enjoy the special privilege of attending a grandson’s wedding, ensuring treasured family memories could continue to be made despite living in residential care. Residents also enjoy surprise visits and thoughtful gestures from family and friends that reinforce the home’s strong focus on maintaining meaningful relationships.

Through community partnerships, family events and seasonal celebrations, Sandpiper creates an inclusive environment where residents remain connected to the people and occasions that matter most.
