Residents at Richard House experienced a taste of India last week, when local Chef Praf from Praf’s Kitchen, New Beacon Road, visited the home and provided a 1-1 cooking lesson to Head Chef Karen.
Karen, Head Chef has previously worked with Praf and was excited to learn his secret family recipes. Karen learnt how to make traditional curry from scratch, onion bhaji, chicken tikka and perla rice.
Karen commented, ‘I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make traditional curry, compared to what I normally cook at home, I am so appreciative of Praf and all the new skills I have learnt.’
Praf also treated the home to a Ganesha elephant-headed Hindu God. The God is traditionally worshipped for new beginnings and both the placer and remover of obstacles.
The residents loved the curry and said it tasted amazing.
The home was decorated with traditional decorations, which residents had helped to create during their morning activities.
Lifestyle Manager Anita Asken commented ‘This is just the start of our journey around the world. Residents will be visiting a different country each month. We have already started to make provisions for France next month. The event will be Ratatouille themed, with French cuisine, fancy dress, and decorations.
