What a truly lovely and moving morning residents of Abbey Wood Lodge Care Home had on the 5th November as we warmly welcomed a wonderful group of children from St Anne’s Catholic Primary School. Their special visit was centred around the upcoming Remembrance Day, creating an atmosphere of shared reflection and community spirit.
The children had clearly been working incredibly hard in their heartfelt poems about remembrance, and listening to them was an absolute joy and a privilege for all our residents. The room quickly filled with warm chatter as the pupils say down with the residents.
It was wonderful watching them share their beautiful written work and discuss the meaning and importance of Remembrance Day. The open conversation between the two generations was both educational for the children and incredibly touching for our residents, bringing back important memories.
The highlight of the morning was witnessing the magic of intergenerational socialising. Watching the children and residents connect so easily, sharing stories, and forming new shared memories was a powerful and poignant reminder of how vital these community connections are. The natural curiosity, energy, and enthusiasm the children brought into the room were genuinely infectious, lifting everyone’s spirits.
This interaction is not just enjoyable; it helps bridge gaps, foster mutual respect, and ensures that the lessons and memories of the past are passed on.
They also helped us with our poppy display within the home, by making poppies for us to add to it.
A huge, heartfelt thank you goes out to the talented pupils and dedicated staff of St Anne’s Primary for taking the time to make this special trip. We all thoroughly enjoyed their visit and the meaningful way they honoured Remembrance.
We are already eagerly looking forward to hopefully having them back with us again very soon to create more wonderful connections.
