They say you’re only as old as you feel, and for Marjorie, a lifelong devotee of the “Tiger” of Wales, 87 feels like the perfect age to be front-and-center for a serenade.
On the 21st March, just days after celebrating her 87th birthday, Marjorie’s long-held wish to see her idol came to life in spectacular fashion. While the real Sir Tom Jones was busy preparing for his 2026 concert tour, the team at the Lancashire Manor Hotel pulled out all the stops to provide the next best thing: an unforgettable tribute night!
The evening began with Marjorie being treated like true music royalty. Escorted to a beautifully set table, she enjoyed a gourmet three-course meal prepared by the hotel’s chefs. The staff also surprised her with a personalized birthday card, marking her recent milestone and setting the tone for a night of celebration.
The highlight of the evening, however, was Marjorie’s prime location. Seated at a table directly by the stage, she had the best seat in the house. As the tribute artist took to the stage, the room was transformed into a powerhouse of soul and showmanship.
“It was a nearly impossible wish to grant to get the man himself, but seeing Marjorie’s face light up when she was serenaded was worth every bit of effort,” noted one of the Lifestyle Coordinators at Abbey Wood Lodge.
For Marjorie, the night was a testament to the fact that it is never too late for a “Green, Green Grass of Home” moment. Surrounded by the classic hits she has loved for decades, she proved that while birthdays come and go, the thrill of a great song—and a great performer—is timeless.
As the final notes of “Delilah” rang through the Lancashire Manor Hotel, Marjorie left with more than just a full stomach and a birthday card; she left with the memory of a lifetime, finally getting her date with “Tom”.
